The city council have approved plans for a new sports facility to be built for the university.
The £50m plans have been given the green light and the tendering is underway, the plans come as part of the university’s masterplan seeing around £400m invested into the campus.
The first project to be developed is an indoor sports facility that features an impressive eight-lane 25m swimming pool, two flexible squash courts, a ski simulator and an eight-court sports hall. FaulknerBrowns are the Architects behind the plans and its said that the building will set new standards for sustainability could be the first of its kind in the UK to be BREEAM rated ‘Outstanding’.
The site will be located at the corner of Ravelin Park, the architects have designed the building to integrate with the surrounding environment. The ground floor will be predominately glazed which allows natural light and swimmers to have views of the park.
