Beijing’s government has confirmed that the underground phase of the speed skating venue is now complete.
In preparation for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Beijing is powering on with works to ensure their venues are ready. The national Speed SKating Oval which is also known as the “Ice Ribbon” is on track with construction.
The Ice Ribbon is situated in the Olympic Forest Park and construction involves the installation of 22 separate light arcs which run around the exterior symbolising the speed of the skating sport. Work began on the venue back in April 2017 and is expected to finish at the end of 2019. Once completed the venue will have a capacity of 12,000, ready for the games.
